For people who equally love outdoor adventures like me, one of the most important aspects to consider is your home-away-from-home. With so many trailers to choose from, it can be hard to pick which one that fits your needs. This made me think of teardrop trailers and if they have bathrooms.
But do teardrop trailers have bathrooms? I did a little investigating and this is what I found:
Teardrop trailers are towable, specialized-type trailers among RVs.
Due to their compact size, not all trailers come with bathrooms. Even so, many teardrop trailer models such as the Airstream Basecamp, Happier Camper, and Scamp Trailer 13 have toilets.
But there’s more about teardrop trailers than just knowing whether they have built-in toilets or not. As a streamlined and lightweight caravan, teardrop trailers have made a name for themselves in the RV world.
Let’s take a closer look at teardrop trailers. With bathrooms, they are ultimately an ideal choice for your next overlanding trip.
Do Teardrop Trailers Have Bathrooms?
Many people are under the incorrect impression that teardrop trailers don’t have bathrooms. This stems from the fact that teardrops don’t have a true camper on top. So, they technically aren’t a trailer. But these are designed to be used like trailers, so they have some bathroom area inside.
What Is A Teardrop Trailer Like?
The best way I can describe this is to think of a van with two passenger compartments. Inside the truck, there’s a regular passenger compartment. Additionally, there’s a bathroom area where you can pull down your toilet seat and brush your teeth. If you were to dismantle this van and use it as a trailer, you’d probably have something similar to a teardrop trailer.
So if they’re just like vans, and have bathrooms, then why aren’t there any advertisements for bathrooms for teardrop trailers? The reason is simple: there are no benefits of having a bathroom in a van or a truck. It’s much easier to use the bathroom while you’re at home or in your garage. So, it’s not something that people look for in their new trailers.
Now you may be wondering what kind of bathroom facilities you get in a teardrop, so let’s talk about that.
The one and only toilet available in a teardrop is the portable electric camping toilet. Teardrops don’t offer any type of holding tank for your waste because it’s stored in your vehicle. This is the same type of device you’ll see in RVs and fifth-wheel trailers.
What Is The Smallest Trailer With Bathrooms?
You might be wondering: can you put a toilet in the smallest trailer? The simple answer to that is no, and there’s no such tiny trailer with a toilet. Of course, you can install a portable toilet in any small trailer, but it’ll be more like a Porta Potty than a normal bathroom.
The reason for this is that teardrop trailers are designed to be very streamlined and aerodynamically shaped. Using these trailers as home on wheels means you don’t want anything hanging off the back of the trailer.
There are times when people need a bathroom while they’re on the road, especially when they’re camping with their kids. But they don’t want to carry around porta-potties and other such equipment.
But don’t be fooled into thinking that because you can’t find a tiny teardrop trailer with a bathroom, you won’t be able to use it anyway. These are very versatile trailers, and you could get one that has an LPG tank built into its plumbing!
1. Happier Camper With Bathrooms
This trailer is built from a single metal tube, and there’s nothing else on the outside of the trailer that’s going to frame it or hold it together. The toilet is also just sitting on top of its little stand, so you’re not going to have any support structures holding this trailer together.
You could theoretically put a toilet into this tiny trailer if you wanted to. But when you’re in an area where there are no facilities available, you’re going to want to use some portable toilet, so this isn’t such a good option for most people.
2. Airstream Basecamp With Bathrooms
Aside from teardrop trailers, the Airstream Basecamp is the most well-known type of small trailer that you can invest in. While they are simple and easy to use, they don’t offer much room for a bathroom. You could theoretically put one in, but it’s not going to have any space for you to sit down and enjoy yourself. The Airstream Basecamp is a much better fit with camp chairs or a small table, and that’s about it.
There are teardrops that have a toilet with an attached sink, which could be considered a bathroom area if you’re okay with using your van as your bathroom. But some people prefer to just put their camper-style toilet inside of the flat portion of their camper shell instead of building an actual bathroom into their trailer.
3. Scamp Trailer 13 With Bathrooms
This trailer has a bathroom area at the back of its compartment. This is a fun option because you won’t have to go out into your yard or evacuate into the woods while you’re on the move. It’s a fairly small bathroom, and it’s not anything that you’re going to be able to take an extended amount of time in, but it’s great for a weekend trip.
But the truth is, most people don’t have the space or need any kind of bathroom facilities in their trailers. As I said earlier, you can put a toilet into these trailers, but they’ll probably not be used because other options make more sense…
Final Thoughts
There are many different things that you need to consider when purchasing a teardrop trailer. The most crucial consideration will be whether or not you have the space for one of these. Teardrop trailers aren’t built like traditional trailers, and they aren’t always easy to store at home.
In the end, these were a few of the best trailer toilets for you to consider. Hopefully, this has been a helpful guide. Have a great day!
